Upsells & Extras

The Upsells & Extras feature lets you offer additional products to active subscribers. Products can be added as one-time extras for the next delivery or as permanent recurring items on the subscription.

Control where each upsell is shown to customers and your team:

You can enable any combination of locations per upsell configuration.

Each upsell configuration has a purchase type that controls how products are added:

Navigate to Subscriptions → Upsells in the Gro dashboard:

  • Select which Shopify products to offer as upsells
  • Choose the display locations where the upsell should appear
  • Select the purchase type (one-time & recurring, recurring only, or one-time only)
  • Configure pricing: use the product’s regular price or set a subscription-specific price

In the Customer Portal, subscribers see an “Add Extras” option on their subscription. This opens a dialog showing:

  • Available upsell products with images and prices
  • Quantity controls
  • A toggle to choose one-time vs recurring (when the purchase type allows both)
  • Subscription pricing shown when selecting recurring

During the Subscription Wizard (Build-a-Box flow), upsell products are presented as customers build their box, allowing them to add extras before checkout.

From the Gro dashboard on a subscription’s detail page:

  1. Click “Edit Items” to enter edit mode
  2. If upsells are configured for this subscription, an “Add Extras” button will appear
  3. Click “Add Extras” and select the products to add
  4. Press “Done” to confirm your selection
  5. Review the changes, then press “Save Changes” to apply them to the subscription
  • One-time items are stored as pending items and applied to the next billing cycle. After that order is processed, the item is removed automatically.
  • Recurring items are added directly to the Shopify subscription contract as a new line item, so they appear on every future order.
