Creating Your First Subscription Product

After installing Gro, follow these steps to set up your first subscription product:

1. Create an Entity

An entity in Gro represents a subscription product configuration. Navigate to Subscriptions → Products in the Gro dashboard and click Create Product.

  • Select the Shopify product(s) to include
  • Choose a subscription frequency (e.g. every 30 days, monthly, weekly)
  • Set pricing: use the product’s regular price or configure a subscription discount

2. Configure Selling Plans

Selling plans define the subscription options your customers see at checkout. Gro automatically creates and syncs selling plans with Shopify.

  • Subscribe & Save — standard recurring subscription with an optional discount
  • Build-a-Box — customers choose products for each delivery (see Build-a-Box)

3. Add to Your Theme

Gro uses Shopify’s selling plan selectors. Most modern themes automatically display subscription options on the product page when a selling plan group is attached to a product.

4. Test a Subscription

Place a test order with a subscription selling plan to verify the flow end-to-end:

  1. Add a subscription product to cart
  2. Complete checkout
  3. Verify the subscription appears in the Gro dashboard
  4. Check the customer portal shows the new subscription
