Adding banners to your portal
Your customers visit the portal every week, so it’s a great place to tell them what’s new. Banners let you drop your own images into the portal: a seasonal sale, a new flavour, a free gift, or a reminder to refer a friend.
Why it matters:
- Sell to people who already buy. Promote new products and add ons to customers who are already subscribed.
- Looks right on every screen. Upload a wide image for desktop and a square one for mobile, so nothing gets cropped awkwardly on a phone.
- One image or a carousel. Add a single image, or a few to rotate through.
- Reuse what you have. Images come from your media library, so the same artwork you use in emails works in the portal too.
Create a banner
Section titled “Create a banner”- Go to Storefront → Customer portal → Banners and click Create banner.
- Give it a name. Only you see this, it’s how the banner shows in your list.
- Click Select image under Desktop image and pick an image from your media library, upload a new one, or import one from a link.
- Do the same under Mobile image with an image made for phones.
- Under On click of banner, choose Do nothing, or Open a link and add where it goes.
- Click Create banner.
Where banners show
Section titled “Where banners show”All your banners show together in one Banners block. Your first banner puts that block at the top of your first portal tab. Move it anywhere under Design → Layout, just like any other block.
With no banners switched on, the block shows nothing to customers. In the design preview it shows a faint “Banners show here” placeholder, so you can see where they’ll go.
Desktop and mobile images
Section titled “Desktop and mobile images”Phones get the mobile image and bigger screens get the desktop one.
- Desktop: wide images work best, around 1600 × 500.
- Mobile: square or tall images work best, around 800 × 800.
- Only for one screen? Leave the other image empty and the banner only shows on that screen. Handy for a phone only offer.
Carousels
Section titled “Carousels”When more than one banner is switched on, the Banners block becomes a carousel. Customers can swipe on a phone or use the arrows and dots on desktop, and it moves on by itself every 5 seconds. It pauses while a customer is hovering over it, and never moves on its own for customers who’ve asked their device for less motion.
For the smoothest carousel, make all your desktop images the same size, and all your mobile images the same size.
Each banner can link somewhere, or nowhere. Links can be:
- A page on your store, like
/collections/allor/products/summer-box. - A full web address, like
https://yourstore.com/pages/rewards.
Links don’t open in the portal preview, so you can click around without leaving the editor.
Turn a banner off
Section titled “Turn a banner off”Switch off Active next to a banner to hide it without deleting it. Switch it back on when you need it again, for example a holiday banner each December.
Questions
Section titled “Questions”Can I have more than one banner? Yes. Every banner that’s switched on shows in the Banners block, as a carousel.
Can I put banners in different places? There’s one Banners block, so all your banners show together. Put the block on any tab, in the main column or the sidebar.
Do I need to save the design after creating a banner? No. A new banner is live as soon as you create it.
