Safe hours and quiet hours

Two windows decide whether a marketing text goes out now or waits.

Set under Settings > SMS, in your account’s timezone. The default is 8 am to 8 pm. A text queued outside the window is held and sent the moment the window opens. Nothing is dropped.

You can change the times or turn the window off entirely.

Some countries restrict when marketing texts may be delivered. Gro applies these in the customer’s timezone, on top of your safe hours, and you cannot turn them off.

The send happens at the first moment both windows allow. Where a customer’s timezone is unknown, Gro uses your account timezone.

  • Approved transactional messages. Order confirmations, delivery times, payment failures. Tick Transactional on a flow step (or on an email template) for these. Once approved they bypass opt-in, both windows and the opt-out footer, because they are information the customer asked for rather than marketing.

Because that bypass is powerful, the copy is reviewed first. On save, Gro’s AI reads the message. Clear order and account notices are approved within seconds. Anything that promotes, discounts or re-engages goes to a Gro team member. Until approved, the flow step does not send and is logged as failed, so the flag cannot be used to reach unsubscribed customers while review is open. Editing the copy sends it back for review. The status shows on the flow step.

Campaigns can never use a transactional template. Sending and scheduling are refused, and the wizard tells you why.

  • Flow steps with “Ignore safe hours” ticked. These skip your own window only. Legal quiet hours still apply.

  • US states go further than federal law. Florida, Oklahoma and Washington use 8 am to 8 pm, and some block holidays. Gro only knows the customer’s country, so if you sell into those states, set your safe hours to 8 am to 8 pm and they are covered.
  • Consent matters more than timing. Gro only texts customers whose SMS status is Subscribed, appends an opt-out link to every marketing text, and honours STOP immediately. That is the core obligation in every country listed.
  • This is guidance, not legal advice. The windows are conservative defaults. Check with your own adviser for the markets you sell into.
